(A)moral Agents in Organisations? The Significance of Ethical Organisation Culture for Middle Managers’ Exercise of Moral Agency in Ethical Problems

This paper investigates qualitatively the significance of different dimensions of ethical organisation culture for the exercise of middle managers’ moral agency in ethical problems. The research draws on the social cognitive theory of morality and on the corporate ethical virtues model. This study broadens understanding of the factors which enable or constrain managers’ potential for moral agency in organisations, and shows that an insufficient ethical organisational culture may contribute to indifference towards ethical issues, the experiencing of moral conflicts, lack of self-efficacy and morally disengaged reasoning. The purpose of this doctoral dissertation in social work is to illustrate the open care child welfare support that is conducted in private homes. Family work in this study is seen as essentially morally charged work, because the study’s theoretical background approach-es social work from a perspective of reflective, relation-based theory. The object of the study is parents’ and family workers’ experiences of family work, especially within a private home setting. Tässä kriittisessä analyysissä perehdytään selviytymiskauhupeli DayZ:n sosiaalisiin käytäntöihin, jotka suosivat negatiivista vapautta ja luovat odotuksia pelaajien käytöksestä. Näiden käytäntöjen yleinen omaksuminen on tehnyt ennaltaehkäisevästä väkivallasta vallitsevan pelitavan. Artikkeli kartoittaa peliteknisiä, sosiaalisia ja kulttuurisia osatekijöitä, jotka mahdollistavat tämän epäsosiaalisen toimintamallin.
